The China Cultural Center in Pakistan, in collaboration with the Culture Office of the Chinese Embassy, has launched a series of online events to mark the 2024 Mid-Autumn Festival under the theme “A Moon Moment to Remember.”
The festival, celebrated on September 17, is one of China’s most important cultural holidays, symbolizing reunion and togetherness. The festival traditionally takes place on the 15th day of the 8th month in the Chinese lunar calendar when the moon is at its fullest, symbolizing completeness.
Families gather for feasts at round tables, light up lanterns, and enjoy mooncakes—a signature delicacy—while admiring the full moon. In Chinese culture, the round shape signifies unity, and these customs are meant to wish success and prosperity for the year ahead.
This year’s celebrations in Pakistan include a variety of digital activities, such as the “Mid-Autumn Day in Poetry” video series, which highlights the festival’s symbolic poetry and literary traditions. These events aim to share the essence of the Mid-Autumn Festival not just with the Chinese community in Pakistan, but also with people worldwide, fostering cultural exchange and understanding.
The China Cultural Center will feature festival-related content on its official Facebook page, WeChat channel, and the Twitter (X) account of Zhang Heqing, Cultural Counsellor and Director of the Center.
The initiative promises to offer vibrant performances and other cultural highlights, showcasing the beauty of this ancient Chinese tradition.
For those interested in following the celebrations and learning more about Chinese culture, updates will be regularly posted on these platforms.
Audiences can immerse themselves in the festivities virtually, experiencing the beauty of Chinese traditions from anywhere in the world.
