COVID-19: 50% eligible residents jabbed in Islamabad

500,000 coronavirus vaccine doses administered in Islamabad

Almost 50 percent of vaccine-eligible residents of Islamabad have been partially inoculated as the positivity ratio dropped to 1pc on June 13, officials said.

Over 15,000 people are being vaccinated daily and health officials hope that 70 to 80 percent of the residents in the federal capital would be vaccinated by July 2021.

“The positivity rate in the city, which was around 11pc a few months ago, has dropped to 1%. It is the lowest positivity during the third wave of the pandemic,” according Islamabad District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Zaeem Zia.

At least 500,000 vaccine doses have been were administered in Islamabad.

Pakistan has received a total 14.5 million coronavirus vaccine doses since it began its vaccination drive in February. The country plans to buy a further 90 million doses to inoculate the adult population in the second half of the year, according to the health ministry.

Pakistan’s government has allocated $1.1 billion to buy coronavirus vaccines and plans to vaccinate 100 million people out of the country’s 220 million population by July 2022.
