ECC approved Rs20 billion ($130 million) budget for the procurement of 10 million doses
Pakistan government has approved a $130 million grant (Rs20 billion) to purchase 10 million doses of COVID19 vaccine from China before June 30.
The development was announced after National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) opened vaccination for people over 18 years of age.
Economic Coordination Committee of the Cabinet said that the money will be given to the National Disaster Management Fund to ensure timely procurement of the coronavirus vaccine for an effective national response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
A single dose would cost the government $13 or Rs2,000, and two doses Rs4,000, according to Health Ministry
The estimates based on the current government secured prices suggests that vaccine for 70 million population will cost $1.5 billion, the ECC was informed.
