Jiang Zaidong, a senior Chinese diplomat, has arrived in Pakistan to officially take up his role as the new Chinese Ambassador.
This diplomatic transition comes as part of efforts to enhance the enduring friendship and strategic cooperation between China and Pakistan.
Jiang Zaidong, who assumed his duties on September 5, was warmly welcomed by Pakistani officials and representatives of the Embassy upon his arrival in Islamabad. His credentials will soon be presented to President Arif Alvi in a formal ceremony.
The Chinese Embassy in Pakistan, via its official X account, expressed Ambassador Jiang Zaidongʼs commitment to strengthening the ironclad friendship and all-weather strategic cooperation between China and Pakistan.
Jiang Zaidongʼs appointment followed the return of the previous Chinese Ambassador, Nong Rong, to China in January of this year, where he was elevated to the position of Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs.
Profile: Born in February 1970, Ambassador Jiang joined the foreign service in 1992 and has served primarily in Vietnam. In 2017, he was appointed deputy director of Department of Asian Affairs. Later, he was appointed Chinese Ambassador to Laos according the National People’s Congress decision.
Pakistanʼs new Ambassador-designate to China
In parallel, Khalil Hashmi has been designated as Pakistan’s ambassador to China, succeeding Moinul Haque, who retired from service. Hashmi, currently serving as Pakistan’s ambassador to the United Nations, is set to assume his new role as Pakistan’s envoy to China this month.
