As many as 43 young women gained the confidence and skills needed to make a real impact in their farming communities at the “Khud Mukhtar Baa Waqar” workshop hosted by Al-Ghazi Tractors Limited, in collaboration with the Agriculture Department of Sindh.
Held from August 20 to 22, 2024, at the Directorate of Agriculture Research in Tando Jam in Sindh province, this transformative event empowered 43 young women with essential skills to excel in the agricultural sector.
The two-day workshop combined hands-on learning with practical sessions, offering participants valuable insights into modern agricultural tools, including Al-Ghazi’s advanced tractors and implements. T
he closing ceremony was graced by key figures such as Sardar Muhammad Bux Khan Mahar, Minister for Agriculture, Sports & Youth Affairs; Mr. Rafique A. Burero, Secretary Agriculture Sindh; and Shuhab Uddin Abro, Director General of the Agriculture Engineering Department.
On the first day, the workshop introduced attendees to Al-Ghazi’s range of tractors, highlighting their financial benefits and the business opportunities they can create. The second day focused on practical training, where participants learned to operate and maintain these tractors. They received tractor-driving licenses and engaged in hands-on practice, gaining the confidence and skills necessary to make a tangible impact in their farming communities.
Amna Baloch, one of the participants from a farming background, expressed her enthusiasm: “I have never received training like this before and never thought I could drive a tractor. Now, I feel excited and confident about contributing to my family’s farming business.”
Maham Nabeel, Head of Legal at Al-Ghazi Tractors, underscored the significance of women’s roles in agriculture: “Empowerment and inclusivity are essential for driving innovation and progress. Minister Sardar Muhammad Bux Khan Mahar praised the initiative, stating, “Women are crucial to rural development. Supporting these initiatives is vital, and we are working on policies to subsidize tractors for women, enabling them to use or rent these machines for their farms. This partnership between the private sector and government is key to our progress.”
The workshop concluded with the awarding of certificates to participants, celebrating their achievements and marking a significant step forward in women’s empowerment in agriculture.
