Rehabilitated female leopard released in Azad Jammu Kashmir by IWMB

Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) has successfully released a rehabilitated female leopard into the wild in Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK).

The leopard, previously found injured with a severely wounded tail, underwent an intensive five-week rehabilitation process at the rescue center set up by IWMB, which works under the Ministry of Climate Change.

Following her recovery and clearance by veterinarians, the leopard was reintroduced to her natural habitat in the lush forests of AJK. The release operation was conducted with support from the AJK Wildlife Department, which assisted in ensuring a smooth transition for the animal back into the wild.

Wildlife ambassador and leopard expert Jamal Leghari played a crucial role in this endeavor, accompanying the IWMB team to Muzaffarabad to photograph and closely monitor the leopard’s release. His presence highlighted the importance of the project and provided valuable documentation of the leopard’s return to the wild.

In a statement, IWMB said that this successful release is a testament to IWMB’s ongoing commitment to wildlife conservation and rehabilitation and tireless efforts to safeguard the nation’s wildlife, ensuring that injured and displaced animals receive the care and support needed to thrive once again in their natural environments.

The collaborative effort with the AJK Wildlife Department reflects a broader dedication to protecting and preserving Pakistan’s rich biodiversity.
