Ghani is the fifth chairperson of FBR during the last two years
The federal government appointed Muhammad Javaid Ghani, a 22nd scale customs officers, as the new chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) through an official notification. The summary for the additional charge of the post of FBR chief to Ghani was approved by the federal cabinet through circulation.
He will replace Nausheen Javaid Amjad, who replaced the former ailing chairman Shabbar Zaidi for a tenure of two years. Zaidi was on leave since January and bid adieu to the position on medical grounds in April. However, her contract has been terminated prematurely and she has been appointed as the secretary national heritage and culture division.
“The federal government has been pleased to assign additional charge of the post of chairman, Federal Board of Revenue, to Mr. Muhammad Javed Ghani … for a period of three months or till the posting/appointment of a regular incumbent; whichever is earlier,” the notification from the Establishment Division read.
Ghani was on the FBR’s board for customs policy. He will hold the reigns of the tax authority until a permanent appointment is made. He was considered for the position in April as well before Nausheen Javaid’s appointment. Ghani is the first person to serve as the chairperson of FBR during the last two years.
In the running for the post permanently are member Inland Revenue operations, Dr. Ashfaq Ahmed, and Additional Secretary Ministry of Finance Ahmed Mujtaba Memon.
