Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf Imran Khan set a new global record on Wednesday, as he spoke to over 160K Twitter users during a live session on Twitter Space ahead of PTI’s rally in Lahore.
Twitter Space is a relatively new feature of the social media platform, which allows live conversations and unfiltered discussions between presenters and the masses.
During Imran Khan’s live session, on Wednesday night at 10 pm local time, more than 446,000 people from around the globe tuned in to interact with the former premier. Dr. Arslan Khan and Jibran Ilyas curated and hosted the live session.
Social media consultants and analysts reported that about half a million Twitter users interacted with Khan during the session and an average of 165,000 users logging in the live space simultaneously. The record for largest Twitter Space live session was previously held by K-POP Lyrical Space with over 44,000 listeners.
PTI’s official Twitter handle congratulated Pakistan, as the ex-Prime Minister’s session broke the record.
PTI’s effective social media strategy
PTI is known for its largest youth-following as well as for utilizing social media effectively by formulating innovative political campaigns online. The party’s focus on vigorous social media strategies has helped it successfully garner support globally.
Largest Twitter Trend
Since the ouster of Imran Khan on April 10 through a vote of no-confidence motion in the National Assembly, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf has popularized the hashtag “Imported Hakumat Na-Manzoor”, the largest trend in Pakistan’s social media history. Over the last 10 days, the hashtag has been tweeted more than eight million times.
Matt Navara, a social media consultant based in the United Kingdom tweeted, “a new @TwitterSpaces record?”
Another user highlighted that the historic session would serve as a reminder of the importance of social media in politics. “Social audio will be huge for politics,” he wrote.
