Islamabad Police request people not to waste their time by making fake calls

As if going after criminals and ensuring public safety was not enough, the Islamabad Police department also has to deal with an immense amount of fake phone calls.

Islamabad Police receives approximately 2,700 fake calls each day which the police officers say is not only wasting their time but also causing delay in responding to real emergency situations.

“If we receive a hoax call, it means at that time we are not available to someone who actually needs our help. It could be a matter of life or death,” said Islamabad Police chief Qazi Jamil-ur-Rehman.

Inspector-General (IG) Qazi Jamilur Rehman requested the people to stop making hoax calls as it may put someone’s life in danger.

“When people think they’re being funny or playing a prank, they’re really putting other people at risk,” one officer said.

The police emergency department 15 is critical in connecting the public with the police but the scam callers are severely impacting the police response.

To discourage scammers, IG police has now directed the 15 authorities to book the frequent callers and proceed a legal action against them.

The capital police has embraced several digital initiatives recently aimed at effective policing and restoring the confidence of the public with focus on active use of social media to improve engagement between citizens and the police.
