Nestlé Pakistan has released its 2023 Creating Shared Value (CSV) Report, ‘Powering a Sustainable Tomorrow’.
This year’s report sheds light on the Swiss multinational food and beverage company’s commitments towards climate action, sustainable plastics, regenerative agriculture, renewable energy, and water regeneration, all aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).
Key highlights of Nestlé Pakistan CSV Report 2023
Nestlé Pakistan’s 2023 CSV Report reported these key achievements:
- Investment of PKR 2 billion towards renewable energy, including a 2.5-megawatt solar power plant at Kabirwala Factory reducing 1,800 tCO2e of greenhouse gas emissions annually.
- Facilitated import of over 8,500 high-yield cows for local farmers.
- Installed 67 solar systems, and 21 biogas plants at local farms to reduce emissions and increase cost efficiency.
- Operational drip irrigation across 128 acres in Punjab and 183 acres in Sindh, along with smart soil sensors on 548 acres, advancing regenerative agriculture.
- Clean and safe drinking water facilities near manufacturing sites in Sheikhupura, Kabirwala, and Islamabad provide access to clean water to 70,000 people daily.
- Installation of three compressing and baling machines, and 48 benches and waste bins made of recycled plastic in Gilgit, Hunza, and Skardu under Clean Gilgit-Baltistan Project, facilitating waste management of over 2,600 tons of plastic packaging.
- Expansion of Nestlé for Healthier Kids (N4HK) Program, educating over 500 teachers and 40,000 children in 2023, with new N4HK rooms developed at schools in various regions.
- Commitment to ensuring 100% packaging is designed for recycling by 2025, offering paper straws across the ready-to-drink range to reduce virgin plastics usage.
- Corporate contribution of PKR 15 million to organizations including SOS Children’s Villages of Pakistan, Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS), and Akhuwat Foundation under Nestlé Cares initiative.
- Planting 38,000 trees in 2023 and 25,000 trees in the previous year as part of Nestlé’s environmental sustainability efforts.

Sustainability efforts by Nestlé Pakistan
Jason Avanceña, CEO of Nestlé Pakistan, emphasized the company’s dedication to making a positive impact across its value chain. “We are committed to be a force for good throughout our value chain by creating shared value and delivering on our sustainability agenda. From reducing our carbon footprint to taking another step closer to a waste-free future by creating awareness, enlightening the younger generations about nutrition, enabling rural women to become financially empowered – our efforts on ground have made a positive impact in many ways,” Avanceña stated.
Nestlé Pakistan CEO highlighted Nestlé’s strides in renewable energy, citing the operation of 2.5MW and 2.6MW solar power plants at its factories in Kabirwala and Sheikhupura.
Sheikh Waqar Ahmad, Head of Corporate Affairs & Sustainability at Nestlé Pakistan, underscored the company’s multifaceted approach to sustainability. Ahmad outlined Nestlé’s contributions under the Clean Gilgit-Baltistan Project (CGBP), which included donating compressing and baling machines in Gilgit, Hunza, and Skardu, and installing benches and waste bins made from recycled plastic at popular tourist destinations.
In 2023, the CGBP project facilitated the waste management of 2600 tons of plastic packaging in the region.
Moreover, Nestlé’s commitment to water preservation was highlighted through its Caring for Water – Pakistan initiative, which saw the implementation of drip irrigation across 128 acres in Punjab and 183 acres in Sindh, alongside the deployment of smart soil moisture sensors on 548 acres, which is advancing regenerative agriculture.
Nestlé’s dedication to community well-being was evident through initiatives like Nestlé for Healthier Kids (N4HK), which aimed to increase nutritional awareness among children by partnering with 11 schools.
Additionally, the Nestlé BISP Rural Women Sales Program, conducted in collaboration with Akhuwat Foundation, focused on empowering rural women by enrolling nearly 3000 beneficiaries as sales agents across 28 districts in Pakistan.
Nestlé Pakistan’s localization efforts
In a significant move towards sustainability and supporting local communities, Nestlé Pakistan achieved over 90% localization in its raw material and packaging sourcing. The company sourced 420 million liters of milk, over 7,500 metric tons of wheat and rice, and 50,000 tons of local fruits, including mangoes, apples, peaches, guavas, lime, kinnow, oranges, and soon red grapes, thereby significantly boosting local farmers’ livelihoods. As the company celebrates 35 years in Pakistan, it emphasizes the importance of collective action for a sustainable future.
