Broke Traffic rules? Islamabad Traffic Police will now send traffic ticket to your home
Nearly two years after the Safe City project, Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has finally started monitoring traffic violations through the 1800 cameras installed across the city.
This means that there is no escaping from traffic violations because even if you flee the scene, the capital police will now send traffic tickets to the home of the vehicle owner.
Following directions of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Dr. Sultan Azam Temuri, ITP has started strict implementation of traffic laws to ensure safe road environment in the city.
ITP has set up a separate unit which would be responsible monitoring traffic on various thoroughfares of the capital.
SSP (Traffic) Farrukh Rasheed will personally monitor the new system while relevant police officials have been acquainted with the traffic system.
The automated cameras monitor the traffic at different locations in the cities, looking for violations such as taking wrong u-turns, breaking the signal or overspeeding etc.
Talking about the system, SSP Rasheed said that tickets for the fines would be sent to the violators and that there would be a bar on transferring ownership of vehicles unless outstanding fines are cleared.
The new system is at par with international standards and developed countries use such systems to check traffic violations, officials said.
The police hope this system would ensure a safer road environment and maintain exemplary traffic system in the city and be a model for other cities in the country.
