Pakistan and Azerbaijan have agreed to enhance military collaboration, expand bilateral ties, and strengthen regional cooperation.
The development came during a meeting between Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chairman of Pakistan’s Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, on October 28.
Azerbaijan officials who joined the talks with Pakistani officials included Azerbaijan’s Minister of Defense, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, First Deputy Minister of Defense, Chief of the General Staff of the Azerbaijan Army, Colonel General Karim Valiyev and Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Pakistan Khazar Farhadov.
Focus on military collaboration and joint exercises
Azerbaijani Colonel General Zakir Hasanov extended a warm welcome to Pakistani officials and emphasized the significance of enhancing bilateral and trilateral military cooperation between Azerbaijan, Pakistan and Türkiye.
The meeting, held at Pakistan’s General Staff, primarily focused on military cooperation, with both sides reviewing the current state and potential future of defense relations. They underscored the importance of increasing joint military exercises involving Azerbaijan, Pakistan, and Türkiye to boost trilateral defense capabilities and interoperability.
High-level visits and multilateral collaboration
Bayramov and Mirza praised the frequent high-level exchanges between their nations, particularly visits by foreign ministers and leaders, which have strengthened diplomatic and defense ties. These interactions, along with established political consultation and regional cooperation platforms, have elevated Azerbaijan-Pakistan relations.
Discussions also covered enhanced collaboration across political, economic, trade, high technology, and security sectors. The leaders reiterated their commitment to mutual support in multilateral organizations, including the United Nations, the Non-Aligned Movement, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
The leaders noted Pakistan’s recent election to the United Nations Security Council for the 2025-2026 term, viewing it as a significant opportunity to reinforce diplomatic ties and support regional stability.
Additionally, the upcoming COP29 conference was highlighted as a promising venue for further discussions between Azerbaijani and Pakistani leaders, with both nations eager to cooperate on pressing environmental issues.
The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to deepen ties across areas of shared strategic and regional interest.
