Pakistan dispatches third aid consignment carrying 20 tonnes of relief goods to Gaza

Pakistan on Monday sent a third consignment of 20 tonnes of relief items to Gaza, the army’s media wing said, as Israel continues its atrocities against Palestinians, claiming more than 21,000 Palestinian lives over the last almost three months.

This relief package sent through a special flight by the South Asian country for the people of Gaza included medications, medical equipment, dry rations, and hygiene kits.

The departure of the special flight at Nur Khan Base in Rawalpindi was witnessed by caretaker Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani, Palestinian Ambassador to Pakistan Ahmed Rabi, representatives of the foreign ministry, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), and senior officers of Pakistan’s armed forces.

“The third aid shipment contains about 20 tons of essential items including surgical/medical supplies, dry food items and gift bags for children as well as hygiene kits as per ground needs in Gaza,” the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the army’s media wing, said.

The special flight will arrive in Al-Arish city in Egypt. Pakistan’s ambassador in Egypt will receive the relief items and then send them to Gaza for distribution, the ISPR statement said further.

The interim FM described the consignment as a gesture of solidarity with Palestinian brothers.

“The Foreign Minister expressed his full support to the Palestinian people and condemned the disproportionate and indiscriminate use of force by Israel against civilians, especially women and children, in Gaza,” the ISPR said.

Jilani also urged for an immediate cease-fire in Gaza and to uphold the basic principles of justice and human rights.

“More humanitarian aid is also being arranged for Gaza, which will be sent by the people of Pakistan very soon,” ISPR quoted Jilani as saying.

The people of Gaza have been under relentless ground and air assault bombing by Israeli forces since Oct. 7. Israeli air strikes in the densely populated Gaza have killed at least 21,800 Palestinians and injured 56,697 so far, mostly women and children, according to Hamas-run health ministry. At least 156 Palestinians have been killed and 246 injured in the last 24 hours, according to the government.

Earlier, Pakistan sent two relief consignments, in October and November last year, containing special winter tents, blankets, medicine and food packs to the distressed people of Gaza and vowed to continue supporting them in future as well.
