Athlete Arshad Nadeem became the first Pakistani sportsman to secure the fifth position in men’s javelin competition at the World Athletics Championships 2022, held in Oregon, United States.
He secured the fifth spot in the final on Friday by throwing at a distance of 81.71 meters during his group B qualifying round to finish ninth overall.
Nadeem said he had achieved the feat despite his injury. “It was a world championship, and I thought it was reasonable for me to play with the injury,” he said according to Arab News.
Nadeem made history when he became the first Pakistani athlete to qualify for the World Athletics Championships final.
Grenada’s Anderson Peters beat Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra to retain his world javelin title on Saturday, saving his best for last with a throw of 90.54 meters, according to World Athletics.
