Pakistan has passed the grim milestone of 1 million cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began last year.

At least 11 deaths Friday and 1,425 new cases of infection were reported in the last 24 hours, bringing the country’s tally to 1,000,034 people infected. Nearly 22,939 lost their lives to the coronavirus in the country.

Infections have been increasing as the more contagious delta variant spreads during the Eid al-Adha holiday this week.

Pakistan has so far administered 24 million vaccine doses. At least 6.8 million people are fully vaccinated and 19.2 million partially as of July 23.
