Pakistan’s Sister Ruth Lewis remembered as “the icon of love, care and true compassion”
Sister Ruth Lewis, Pakistan’s “Mother of forgotten children” and head of Darul Sukoon Organization in Karachi, passed away due to novel coronavirus.
The 77-year-old sister fell sick and was taken to the hospital on July 9th. At least 21 children were infected by the virus and Sister Ruth continued to serve them despite her illness.
Darul Sukoon expressed its grief of passing away of the Sister in, who had been associated with the organization for many years, in a Facebook post. They applauded her for the inspirational work she did for the organization.
“All our children, nuns and staff are heartbroken, as we have lost a huge part of us. Please pray for the children to whom she has been a mother, for the nuns for whom she was a sister and a true inspiration and for all the Staff whom love her and will each day try to walk in her footsteps,” the statement read.
Another post recalled her services for the abandoned and neglected chidlren. “Her services to humanity in larger and to the destitute severely disabled children and elderly, socially displaced girls and boys is remarkable her service spans around 51 years.”

A number of well-known personalities applauded the services of Sister Ruth Lewis. Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh on Law & Environment Murtaza Wahab cherished her services for the people.
Aseefa Bhutto Zardari remembered her selfless services for humanity and lamented the loss.
Senator Sherry Rehman also expressed her gratitude for the services performed by Sister Ruth Lewis.
Sister Ruth was a Roman Catholic nun, who received the Pride of Karachi Award over her contributions to the society and particularly the vulnerable in the society.
