Pakistan and Russia announce cooperation in the fields of science and technology

The historic visit of Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan to Russia has also paved the way for both nations to undertake cooperation in many areas including technology.

The Special Technology Zones Authority (STZA) of Pakistan and the Russian Skolkovo Foundation have signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) on February 24 to boost cooperation in the technology sector, establish closer business relations and foster strategic cooperation and exchanges between Pakistani and Russian scientific and technological institutions and enterprises.

The LOI was signed between Chairman of the Board of Skolkovo Foundation, Igor Drozdov, and Chairman of Special Technology Zones Authority Amer Hashmi. The ceremony was witnessed by Prime Minister Imran Khan and key cabinet ministers.

“The Skolkovo-STZA collaboration is the latest addition to STZA’s portfolio of strategic partnerships, intended to collaborate on opening new doors for the leading Russian technology companies and organizations seeking to operate in Pakistan’s Special Technology Zones” the official statement said.

The STZA has been created by the federal government of Pakistan to provide a world-class digital and physical infrastructure to investors, builders, and technology companies through the development of Special Technology Zones (STZs) across the country. The organization aims to build knowledge ecosystems that will harness Pakistan’s IT potential and set the country on the trajectory of an entrepreneurial, innovative, and tech-driven future for shared prosperity and inclusive growth and place Pakistan on the global technology map.

Skolkovo Foundation is a Russian organization that fosters startups by creating a sustainable ecosystem of entrepreneurship and innovation, engendering a startup culture and encouraging venture capitalism. Its five key areas of potential growth are: energy efficiency, strategic computer technologies, biomedicine, nuclear technologies and space technologies.
