Russian troops arrive in Pakistan for Friendship 2020 drills

Russian troops have arrived in Pakistan to participate in the joint Russian-Pakistani military exercise named “Druzhba 5” (Friend­ship 2020).

“Russian Federation Special Forces’ contingent arrived in Pakistan for two weeks long joint exercise Druzhba 5. The exercise is aimed at sharing both armies’ experiences in counterterrorism domain,” Pakistan military’s media wing ISPR said in a statement.

Over 70 Russian special operations troops will be taking part in the two-week long Friendship 2020 drills.

“The international drills involve over 70 servicemen of the special operations company of the Southern Military District’s 49th combined arms army, and also officers of the command headquarters,” said a press office statement by Russia.

During the exercise, the personnel from both countries will exchange experience and practice interoperability in accomplishing a broad range of missions, in particular, eliminating illegal armed formations and conducting reconnaissance and search measures employing aircraft and technical reconnaissance capabilities, the official statement said..

These exercises have been regularly held since 2016 alternating between Pakistan and Russia.
