Thailand’s National Day: Diplomatic ties, cultural performances, and Thai delicacies mark the occasion
The Embassy of Thailand in Islamabad celebrated Thailand’s National Day and Father’s Day on December 3, 2024, with a vibrant event showcasing Thai culture and strengthening bilateral relations.
The celebration also marked the birthday of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, observed as National Father’s Day in Thailand on December 5 annually.
Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah Khan, was the chief guest, joined by Thailand’s newly designated ambassador, Rongvudhi Virabutr, and heads of ASEAN mission states. A symbolic cake-cutting ceremony highlighted the event, emphasizing the long-standing friendship between Pakistan and Thailand.
In her address, Kamolwan Sriposil, Charge d’Affaires of the Thai Embassy, celebrated over 70 years of diplomatic ties, noting, “Thailand and Pakistan share a bond and historical ties that go back 2,000 years to the Gandhara civilization.” She also highlighted ongoing free trade agreement negotiations, which promise enhanced economic collaboration between the two nations.
Kamolwan Sriposil emphasized that under the leadership of Rongvudhi Birabutr, the Thai Embassy was dedicated to advancing Pakistan-Thailand relations. She confidently shared with guests that the ongoing negotiations for a free trade agreement between the two nations would open up greater opportunities for further collaboration.
She also highlighted the positive impact of Thai companies operating and investing in Pakistan, noting that these ventures showcased the potential of the partnership to drive economic growth, create jobs, and enhance livelihoods.
“Pakistan is a nation of immense treasures and potential from the abundance of natural resources to strength of the young population,” she said while appreciating the hospitality and generosity of Pakistani people,” she said.
A Showcase of Thai Culture and Culinary Delights
The event featured traditional Thai dances, handicraft displays, and an array of authentic Thai dishes, offering attendees a taste of Thailand’s vibrant heritage.
The Thai delegation wore yellow, symbolizing respect for the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, whose legacy as a national unifier was celebrated during the event. Guests included members of the diplomatic community, local dignitaries, and government officials.
Rana Sanaullah underscored the shared values and historic connections between the two countries, expressing Pakistan’s appreciation for Thailand’s friendship. He stated, “Pakistan and Thailand enjoy close relations, based on historic linkages, shared values, and common interests.”
