8,766 Motorists fined, over 1,200 cars and bikes seized in one week in Islamabad over traffic violations

In a sweeping week-long enforcement campaign, the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has taken legal action against 8,766 motorists and impounded 1,269 vehicles for a wide array of traffic violations, reinforcing its commitment to road safety and law enforcement in the federal capital.

An ITP official, speaking to APP on Tuesday, confirmed that the intensified operations targeted various types of vehicles, including private cars, motorcycles, and public transport. The goal, officials say, is to instill traffic discipline and ensure a safer commuting experience for all residents and visitors in Islamabad.

Violations includes non-standard plates and reckless driving

The crackdown focused on a broad spectrum of infractions. According to the ITP, 1,225 vehicles were fined for having non-standard number plates, while 782 motorcyclists were penalized for riding without helmets. Illegal parking, a common nuisance on the city’s busy roads, resulted in fines for 2,878 vehicles.

Additional violations included:

  • Wrong-way driving: 1,039 vehicles fined
  • Red light violations: 1,097 cases
  • Failure to wear seat belts: 324 motorists
  • Use of mobile phones while driving: 146 cases

These offenses are not only against traffic regulations but are also key contributors to traffic congestion and road accidents in the city.

In cases involving more serious violations, the ITP went a step further by impounding 1,269 vehicles and motorcycles. These vehicles were subsequently shifted to various police stations across Islamabad.

The large number of impoundments reflects the ITP’s zero-tolerance policy toward dangerous driving behaviors and its push for a safer road environment.

Chief Traffic Officer Captain (Retd) Syed Zeeshan Haider emphasized the need for public support in maintaining order on the roads. “Citizens are urged to comply with traffic laws and cooperate with the ITP to ensure an efficient and safe traffic system in the city,” he said.

He also noted that the Islamabad Traffic Police is taking all possible measures to prevent road accidents and enforce traffic regulations without discrimination.

With thousands penalized in just one week, the message from the authorities is clear: traffic violations will not be tolerated, and consistent enforcement will continue. The ITP’s actions serve as both a deterrent and a reminder of the collective responsibility needed to maintain road safety in a rapidly growing urban center like Islamabad.
