The road was a part of Islamabad’s original master plan but was never constructed
Prime Minister Imran Khan attended the groundbreaking ceremony of Margalla Avenue in Islamabad. The avenue will connect Motorway M1 with Murree Road and also GT Road with E-10 and Constitution Avenue.
The avenue was a part of the master plan of the capital in 1960 but was never constructed. The current road, however, will not be built as per the master plan and changes have been made.
Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) and National Logistic Cell (NLC) will undertake the project on fast track basis. CDA board wanted the Ministry of Defense to undertake the project since some sensitive installations are located in the area. Both NLC and FWO are subsidiaries of the Ministry of Defense.
Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) relaxed its rules in recommending the federal government to execute this project on a single tender basis due to the sensitive installations.
