BYD unveils Pakistan’s first locally assembled Sealion 6 at PAPS 2026

BYD plans to begin local assembly of the plug-in hybrid SUV in Q4 2026

BYD has unveiled its Sealion 6 at the Pakistan Auto Show (PAPS) 2026, positioning the plug-in hybrid SUV as its first planned locally assembled vehicle in Pakistan as the automaker and its partner, Mega Motor Company (MMC), expand their new energy vehicle portfolio.

The company plans to commence production of the Sealion 6 in the fourth quarter of 2026, marking a planned shift from introducing global electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles in Pakistan toward establishing a local production footprint.

The Sealion 6 is the centerpiece of BYD’s showcase at the Expo Center in Lahore, where the company is displaying its electric and plug-in hybrid lineup alongside the introduction of its luxury technology brand, DENZA.

Sealion 6 Leads BYD’s Local Assembly Plans

The planned local assembly of the BYD Sealion 6 represents a new phase in the partnership between BYD and MMC. Production is targeted to begin in Q4 2026, although the company has not provided further details on production capacity, investment, or the specific assembly arrangements in the announcement.

The model is powered by BYD’s Super DM-i (Dual Mode – intelligence) platform, the company’s latest-generation intelligent hybrid system. It combines electric driving with plug-in hybrid functionality, offering a total range of up to 1,100 km, according to BYD.

The technology is designed to provide an electric vehicle-led driving experience while retaining the flexibility of hybrid power for longer journeys. BYD says its Super DM technology has surpassed 8.5 million vehicles sold worldwide.

The company has positioned the Sealion 6 as a vehicle intended to address everyday driving requirements in Pakistan, including range concerns on longer trips, while supporting efficient electric mobility.

BYD Displays Expanded New Energy Vehicle Lineup

Alongside the Sealion 6, BYD’s PAPS 2026 showcase includes the ATTO 2, the SHARK 6 Anniversary Edition in Outback Orange, and the DENZA B8.

The lineup combines battery-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, while introducing DENZA as a luxury technology brand within the BYD portfolio.

BYD described the ATTO 2 as Pakistan’s most popular electric vehicle. The company said the showcase reflects the growing range of electrified mobility options available to consumers beyond conventional powertrains.

The display also includes a selection of genuine BYD accessories designed to enhance the ownership experience.

BYD Highlights Long-Term Presence in Pakistan

Lei Jian, Country Head – BYD Pakistan, said the company’s experience in the Pakistani market had reinforced its confidence in the potential for new energy mobility.

“Pakistan has shown strong potential for new energy mobility, and the response to BYD since our entry into the market has reinforced our confidence in the country,” said Lei Jian, Country Head – BYD Pakistan. “PAPS provides an opportunity to demonstrate not only the breadth of our current technology and products, but also where we are heading. The planned local assembly of the BYD Sealion 6 is an important step in building a long-term presence in Pakistan and supporting the country’s transition towards new energy mobility.”

Danish Khaliq, VP Sales & Strategy, BYD Pakistan – Mega Motor Company (MMC), said the company’s lineup reflects changes in consumer interest in new technologies.

“Over the last two years, the Pakistani mobility market has shown us that consumers are ready to embrace new technologies and experience what the world has to offer. Our PAPS lineup reflects that evolution — from pure electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids to the introduction of a new luxury brand from the BYD universe. The BYD SEALION 6 takes this evolution one step further by bringing localisation into the equation. As we move towards local assembly, we are not simply expanding our portfolio; we are helping shape what the next generation of mobility in Pakistan can look like.”

The planned assembly of the Sealion 6 comes as Pakistan’s automotive market sees expanding interest in electric and hybrid mobility solutions. BYD’s announcement does not specify the expected share of locally assembled vehicles in its overall Pakistan sales or whether additional models will be assembled locally.

BYD PAPS 2026 Showcase and Booking Offer

BYD’s vehicles and accessories are being showcased at Hall No. 2, Expo Center, Lahore, from September 18 to September 20.

As part of the PAPS 2026 offer, the company said all orders booked at its pavilion during the show will be eligible for first-year free service, subject to applicable terms and conditions.

With local assembly of the Sealion 6 targeted for Q4 2026, BYD and MMC are positioning the model as a planned milestone in their efforts to establish a local manufacturing presence and broaden access to new energy mobility in Pakistan.
