PIA’s special flight brings home 2 million more doses of vaccine from China

So far, over 5.3 million doses have been administered in the country with about 1.3 million people fully vaccinated

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA)’s special flight PK6853 airlifted a new batch of two million doses of Sinovac vaccine from the Chinese capital to Islamabad. PIA Country Manager for China Qadir Bux Sangi said that the airline had lifted a million doses of previously procured Sinovac vaccines earlier. Pakistan is expected to receive 13 million doses of vaccines manufactured by CanSino, SinoPharm, and Sinovac among others under the COVAX program.  

Pakistan has started the vaccination of people over 30 years of age from today. This will help further reduce the risk of the spread of the virus and lower the risk of serious illness from coronavirus. Pakistan is currently facing the third wave of coronavirus.

Fully vaccinated: 1,286,429

Partially vaccinated: 2,857,746

Deaths in 24 hours:

Total fatalities: 57
