European Film Festival 2024 promises cinematic delight across Pakistan this May

Get ready for an unparalleled cinematic journey as the 3rd European Film Festival (EUFF) 2024 kicks off on May 15 at the Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA) in Islamabad.

Following its inauguration in the federal capital, the festival will traverse through Peshawar, Quetta, and Gujrat, treating audiences to a diverse selection of European cinema until May 29, 2024. The film festival is open and free for the public.

Lights, Camera, Europe in action

Film aficionados across Pakistan are in for a treat as the EUFF 2024 showcases several movies from European Union member states, spanning genres from comedy to thriller, documentary to fiction. These films delve into a plethora of themes, ranging from family dynamics to climate change, human rights to economic struggles, offering a captivating glimpse into European cultures and societies.

But the festival isn’t just about film screenings. It is an immersive experience that goes beyond the silver screen. In each city, engaging panel discussions featuring esteemed personalities from Pakistan’s film and media industry will provide insights into the power of visual storytelling and the importance of global perspectives.

European Film Festival returns to Islamabad on May 15

The inaugural film event will begin in Islamabad on May 15, 2024, at the Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA) from 4:30 PM onwards.

Dr. Riina Kionka, Ambassador of the European Union to Pakistan, will inaugurate the film screenings and interactive audio-visual installations in Islamabad.

In Islamabad, luminaries such as playwright Bee Gul, actor Sarwat Gilani, and rising star Ali Junejo will lead discussions moderated by renowned presenter Omar Khalid Butt. Similar panels featuring prominent figures will take place in Peshawar, Quetta, and Gujrat, enriching the festival experience.

Moreover, attendees can participate in “Decoding European Cinema,” a masterclass led by the multifaceted Ali Junejo, aimed at aspiring and practicing filmmakers seeking to deepen their understanding of world cinema.

But that’s not all. Interactive installations and a variety of food stalls will cater to the recreational and culinary desires of festival-goers, adding to the festive atmosphere.
