Strengthening cultural exchange and understanding, the Embassy of Japan in Pakistan, in collaboration with The Nippon Foundation, has presented a collection of 55 books about Japan to Gandhara University Peshawar.
This donation is part of the “Read Japan Project,” which seeks to foster a deeper appreciation of Japan and its culture through literature.
At a ceremony held on October 10, the Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan Wada Mitsuhiro formally handed over the books to Mrs. Roeeda Kabir, Chairperson of Gandhara University. The selection of books, all in the English language, covers a wide array of topics related to Japan, encompassing politics, economics, security, philosophy, art, and culture.
During the presentation, Ambassador Wada extended his congratulations to the students and faculty of Gandhara University for receiving this valuable gift from The Nippon Foundation. He expressed optimism that these books would provide students with a wealth of fascinating insights into Japan.
Speaking on the occasion, he remarked, “I also hope that the students, as well as the faculty members, would continue to explore new ways of learning more about Japanese culture.”
The Ambassador added that the Embassy “would provide cooperation to facilitate this endeavor, especially at a time when we celebrated 70 years of diplomatic relations last year and will mark 70 years of Japanese ODA support for Pakistan next year. Young people are the future of the country. It is my desire that more and more future generations of Japan and Pakistan will get to know each other and cooperate to make our countries better.”
The Read Japan Project, initiated by The Nippon Foundation in 2008, seeks to enhance global understanding of Japan by donating English-language books related to Japan to universities and libraries worldwide. This generous act of cultural exchange reflects a commitment to strengthening international ties and fostering mutual respect between nations.
