In a significant move towards strengthening Pakistan’s disaster management capabilities, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and Jazz (Pakistan Mobile Communications Limited) have signed a Letter of Understanding (LoU) aimed at enhancing disaster risk communication and early warning systems across the country.
The signing ceremony, held at NDMA Headquarters in Islamabad, was attended by Brigadier Qasim Mehmood, Chief of Staff at NDMA, and Jazz CEO Aamir Ibrahim. This collaboration marks a crucial step in leveraging mobile technology to bolster Pakistan’s national disaster preparedness.
Partnership aims to strengthen Early Warning Systems
In a country where natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes, and droughts pose significant risks, the integration of mobile communication technology will serve as a game-changer in improving public safety and preparedness.
The partnership between NDMA and Jazz focuses on a multi-faceted approach to disaster risk management. Key initiatives include real-time early warning dissemination, AI-driven enhancements to the NDMA mobile app, and nationwide campaigns designed to raise awareness about climate change and disaster risks.
Additionally, the partnership will involve capacity-building programs aimed at enhancing the skills of disaster response teams across Pakistan. Jazz will also provide emergency communication support as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts to ensure the swift delivery of crucial information during times of crisis.
The collaboration underscores the need for technology-driven solutions to ensure effective disaster management in Pakistan. With natural disasters becoming more frequent and intense, the role of advanced communication technologies is becoming increasingly important in protecting vulnerable communities.
Aamir Ibrahim, CEO of Jazz, highlighted the importance of this collaboration in ensuring a proactive approach to disaster management. “At Jazz, we recognize the urgent need for a proactive and technology-driven approach to disaster management. Our partnership with NDMA represents a crucial step in strengthening Pakistan’s emergency response framework, ensuring that communities receive timely and reliable information to safeguard lives and livelihoods,” said Ibrahim.
This alliance marks a key milestone in enhancing Pakistan’s disaster resilience. By combining the expertise of NDMA in disaster response with Jazz’s technological capabilities, the two organizations are committed to building a more resilient nation.
