Pakistan and Germany look to boost cooperation in trade
Pakistan and Germany have agreed to boost cooperation particularly in the economic and investment domain.
German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas and Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi held a joint press conference in Berlin, emphasizing strengthening the bilateral between the two countries, especially in trade and investments.
Maas expressed his pleasure in over 35 companies expressing interest in investing in Pakistan. He termed the visit of FM Qureshi a “good opportunity” for the launch of new German initiatives and projects in Pakistan. Qureshi welcomed the idea of German investment in Pakistan and said Pakistan’s government has incentives announced for foreign investors that would make the country a hub of regional trade. 2021 marks the 70th year of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
The two sides also discussed the current ongoing peace process in Afghanistan with Germany praising Pakistan’s efforts. Pakistan has been active in keeping the stakeholders on the discussion table and has worked as a bridge between the two sides.
Arrival in Germany
Pakistan Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi arrived in Germany on Sunday on a two-day official visit along with his delegation on the invitation of Foreign Minister of Germany Heiko Maas. He was welcomed by Pakistan’s ambassador in Germany Dr. Muhammad Faisal, embassy officials, and senior members of the German government.
The Foreign Minister is scheduled to hold delegation-level talks with his counterpart at the Federal Foreign Office. He will also meet the President of the Bundestag, Wolfgang Schauble along with other dignitaries. Qureshi will also be meeting the business leaders and members of the Pakistani community. About 100,000 Pakistanis reside in Germany at the moment.
