Pakistan govt signed agreements with 3 vaccine producers

Pakistan government has signed agreements with three vaccine producers to deliver 30 million doses of coronavirus vaccine to Pakistan, health officials announced on Tuesday.

“The government has purchased about three million (30 lac) vaccine doses and signed deals to purchase another 30 million (3 crore) doses,” said Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health Dr. Faisal Sultan.

One of the agreements with China’s CanSino included a technology transfer that would allow local manufacturing of vaccines in Pakistan. The country expects to receive the CanSino vaccine in bulk to package 3 million doses locally at NIH>

He refuted speculations that the government was only relying on grants and donations of vaccines, clarifying that Pakistan has so far purchased over 3 million vaccine doses as of March 30, 2021.

2 million vaccinated in Pakistan

Pakistan has administered more than 2 million (20 lac) vaccine doses as of April 27, DR Sultan said.

The vaccination process is successfully operating across the country at 1200 COVID vaccination centers. The 22 mass centers have the capacity of administering 5000 doses daily.

Oxygen capacity

National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) is focused on increasing the country’s oxygen production capacity and ensure uninterrupted supply of oxygen to hospitals, he said responding to concerns regarding oxygen shortage amid heratbreaking reports from India.

Vaccination registration opens for 40+

Citizens above 40 years can register for the coronavirus vaccination starting April 27. Meanwhile, the government has also decided to open walk-in vaccination for people over 50 years.
