KP health minister booked for violating COVID rules at Iftar party

Police took action after photos of Iftar party shared on social media

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Minister Taimur Saleem Jhagra was booked on Tuesday for violating COVID-19 rules at an Iftar party in Peshawar on Monday.

Peshawar Assistant Commissioner Ehteshamul Haq said that the administration took action after pictures of the Ramadan Iftar party were shared on social media.

Police have registered FIR against the KP health minister, and the owner and manager of the restaurant for flouting coronavirus SOPs and ordered action. The district administration also sealed the restaurant where the gathering had taken place.

According to available details, the attendees brought food with them and organized the gathering at the hotel.

The FIR was registered under Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Epidemic Control and Emergency Relief Act, 2020.

The city administration said that no one is above the law and indiscriminate action is being taken against any violation of conduct in the province.

Indoor and outdoor dining at restaurants was recently banned by National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) to curb the spread of the coronavirus in major cities.

KP government also requested the deployment of armed forces and civil armed forces in the province to ensure effective implementation of coronavirus guidelines.

KP province reported 584 coronavirus cases and 22 deaths during the last 24 hours. The provincial caseload is 114,661 and the death toll is 3,156.
