PTCL enhances Pakistan’s global Connectivity with Africa-1 Submarine Cable

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has announced a significant milestone with the successful landfall of the Africa-1 submarine cable at its landing station in Karachi.

This move is set to transform Pakistan’s digital landscape, enhancing its connectivity with Saudi Arabia and other major global digital hubs.

The Africa-1 cable, spanning 10,000 kilometers, is a consortium-backed ultra-high-capacity system designed to support Pakistan’s growing digital infrastructure and improve international bandwidth. The cable will provide seamless connectivity between Pakistan and key regions including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Sudan, Algeria, France, Kenya, and Djibouti.

The landfall of this advanced cable at PTCL’s landing station in Sea View Beach, Karachi, marks a transformative step in improving the country’s digital infrastructure. This achievement follows PTCL’s agreement to join the Africa-1 cable system consortium, positioning Pakistan as an integral part of the global digital network and enhancing its telecommunications capabilities.

“The Africa-1 submarine cable will link Pakistan with strategic global locations, reinforcing our position as a critical hub in the worldwide digital ecosystem,” said Syed Muhammad Shoaib, Group VP of International Business at PTCL. “This collaboration aligns with Pakistan’s Digital Vision 2030 and PTCL’s commitment to bridging the digital divide, empowering communities, and providing world-class internet services across the nation.”

The Africa-1 cable system consists of leading telecommunications companies including Mobily (Saudi Arabia), e& (UAE), G42 (UAE), Telecom Egypt, Zain Oman International (ZOI), Algérie Télécom, TeleYemen, and other global service providers. The system’s advanced technologies will ensure reliable, high-speed internet connections for Pakistan and link it to key international digital hubs.

Scheduled for completion by the beginning of 2026, the Africa-1 cable system will greatly enhance PTCL’s capacity to offer high-quality internet services that meet global standards. This initiative is set to elevate Pakistan’s connectivity, foster innovation, and solidify PTCL’s position as a leading telecom operator in the region.
