The Beverly center in Islamabad is gaining a lot of attention these days from the perspective of a foodie. Not long ago this place was known for the exclusive shopping options it had to offer but gradually it has become a heaven for the food lovers of Islamabad. The best part is that there are a lot variety from desi stuff to continental eateries and options to choose from.
The latest delicious addition to Beverly center is Street Burger. Since burgers have always been my weakness and not many places have lived up to my expectations, I decided to head to this new café to explore something new, and something different.
The first impression of the joint is very contemporary and lively as it resembles a corner of a street from Detroit city. The interior and the architecture skills drawn in are superior enough to make a mark in the food scene of Islamabad. The black and yellow interior is truly conspicuous. The place is relatively small and has both the option of dining indoors and outdoors.
The menu is primarily focused on Burgers, but has a lot to offer, with varieties like Seasonal Salads, Chicken Sandwiches and some pleasantly interesting shakes. With this sort of menu, one can simply not ignore the sidelines. The sidelines are always a special attraction, since they are the icing on the cake or the cherry for the eyes as they make up a good portion for your meal.
Something very appealing about this place is that they have gone out of the race of typical burgers and introduced a new species called, The Black Burger. Street Burger is perhaps the first one to offer this in Pakistan and I knew I need to have my hands on this one. So I ordered the signature Street Burger, followed by pistachio shake with onion rings. Plus a Philly Cheese Steak with Parmesan fries. The order took almost 20 minutes to be served and it was served hot.
Starting with the Street Burger that is served in a black bun had the beef patty topped with tomatoes, lettuce, cheddar cheese and a secret sauce that was not revealed. Wrapped in a soft packing, the black bun of the burger was pretty fresh and had a fine amount of sesame. The dark color of the bun is not just for the sake of color but it has an additional flavor as well.
The black bun is basically charcoal flavored and is not at all hazardous to health by any means. Served in many countries as a specialty by burger joints, I am happy to discover that Street Burger have managed to enter the league. Yes, the burger indeed had a taste of charcoal grilling. The reason why people prefer this over ordinary buns is because it gives them a true feeling of having a charcoal grilled burger which is a niche in the burger segment.
To my surprise, I discovered that the black bun has been developed in house with food grade additives used internationally which augment the taste of beef. Visually it looks charred but taste wise it is very close to the normal Burger bun.
The beef was cooked well and served the exact taste of a grilled burger without losing the essence of a juicy burger and the beef patty was exceptionally well done. The tomatoes and the lettuce were fresh as well. The cheddar cheese was fresh and had partially melted down due to the heat of the patty. With all this happening inside the bun and the special sauces added, it truly is a delight for individuals who believe in beef burgers being served juicy, by juicy I mean juicy while being cooked perfectly and not over-cooked.
Another surprising element of this café is the making of the bun. All the buns are baked in house and not being bought from any bakery which surely is a good strategy to maintain an unmatched standard.
Moving on the onion rings, the sideline that I ordered were also a distinctive experience since rings were very crispy, fresh and firm and were not tearing apart even though they were coated with breadcrumbs. The Pistachio shake was rich in flavor and had the specific sort of current that one needs to enjoy with the combo I had chosen. It had no ice cream sort of an ingredient added to it and was outstandingly fresh, neither too sweet nor too low, just the perfect stir.
Now comes the Philly Cheese Steak. One can just simply not ignore this combination if you are a cheese and meat lover. The Philly Cheese steak burger might sound like any other breed of American burgers but is absolutely not American. This is the Italian delight, since it is served in Italian bread instead of the typical bun and is flavored with colored capsicum and Provolone cheese. The meat inside it was truly rib eye meat. This meat, however, was fully cooked and with the bell peppers on it, was no less than a gourmet. The bread was little on the crispy side.
With the first bite, I was down the memory lane, recalling a similar taste perhaps somewhere in Spain or close to that area ages ago. Not even the Americans can make such a combination. The beef was as fresh as the cheese and the bell peppers which added an aroma to the whole meal while it was being munched with Parmesan fries. The fries were sprinkled and with cheese and baked just at the right temperature before turning the cheese sour. The sauces were absent from this one and were out for a good reason. With any kind of sauce added to this combo, the taste would have been spoiled and the meat would have lost its flavoring that it had obtained by the bell peppers topping.
Since Street Burger is not associated with any international chain of restaurants, this taste and quality definitely is phenomenal. They also have some strict policies as their meat never goes into the freezer and everything is served fresh. Over all experience was tremendous. Highly recommended for burger lovers and a must try for the folks of Islamabad. Plus this place is being loved by celebrities.
