Tree plantation drive at Ankara Park in Islamabad

Monsoon Tree Plantation 2019 drive held at Ankara Park by MCI and Nestle Pakistan as part of 10 Billion Tree Tsunami

Advancing Prime Minister Imran Khan’s ‘Clean Green Pakistan’ initiative, Ministry of Climate Change (MoCC) in partnership with Nestlé Pakistan and Metropolitan Corporation of Islamabad (MCI) kicked-off the second wave of Monsoon Tree Plantation 2019. The plantation was held on Wednesday morning at Ankara Park, Islamabad as part of 10 Billion Tree Tsunami.

Speaking at the occasion Malik Amin Aslam, Advisor to Prime Minister on Climate Change, highlighted, the five main initiatives under Clean Green Pakistan campaign. He said according to studies by reputed research organizations, tree plantation is the most cost-effective way to tackle climate change and in this regard, Pakistan is planting 10 Billion Trees across Pakistan. He further said we have been receiving a lot of concerns regarding the waste management situation in different cities and that is the primary focus to address that.

He further briefed the audience that the Ministry of Climate Change is also launching Clean Green Index for Cities Ranking, which will bring a healthy competition among districts and the best performing districts will also be rewarded in this.

Malik Amin Aslam also acknowledged and thanked Nestlé Pakistan for their commitment towards Clean Green Pakistan. “I am delighted to continue this partnership as it will help us to meet our objectives and add to the green cover of the country. Climate change is real, and it is affecting us in ways we can’t imagine. Therefore, other entities, should come forward and help us to make a difference while we still can.”

Talking to media Ambassador of Switzerland to Pakistan H.E Thomas Kolly applauds Pakistan on 10 Billion Tree Tsunami Project. He said that people must take the issue of Climate Change very seriously and I must congratulate Pakistan, you are doing a great job. Ministry of Climate Change has taken excellent initiatives, such as banning plastics bags and 10 Billion Tree project to help tackle Climate Change.

Speaking at the occasion, Samer Chedid, Chief Executive Officer, Nestlé Pakistan said, “We appreciate Prime Minister’s efforts towards a Clean Green Pakistan and are fully committed towards this initiative. Since March, we have planted 25,000 trees across the country and are dedicated to achieving our target of 50,000 trees by spring 2020 in partnership with Clean Green Pakistan.”
