Turkish aid agency TIKA renovates two schools in Pakistan where 1000 girls are studying

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) refurbished and restored two girls’ schools in Mansoorah area of Lahore to help Pakistan improve the quality of education.

A total of 1000 girls are currently studying in the two schools, one primary and one secondary, affiliated with the Gazali Education Foundation, which is currently operating 700 government schools in Pakistan.

The launch ceremony of the project by the Turkish development aid agency was attended by the wife of Turkish ambassador, Mrs Ihsan Mustafa Yurdakul, Her Excellency Ms. Zlatomir Yurdakul; Consul General of Turkey in Lahore Mr. Amir Ozbay; Necip Fazil International Culture and Art Prize winner Professor Amjad Islam Amjad; TİKA Islamabad Coordinator Mr. Gökhan UMUT; President Ghazali Educational Foundation Waqar Anjum Jafri and students.

Famous Pakistani poet, professor Amjad Islam Amjad, who was recently awarded the prestigious Necip Fazil International Culture and Art Award at a ceremony in Istanbul in the presence of honorable President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, drew attention to the long historic relationship between Pakistan and Turkey.

The award by the President of Turkey is not only for him but for all Pakistani people and is a symbol of a deep love of two countries for each other, he said. He added that the TİKA projects especially Youth Exchange Experience Sharing Program in summer and the current school renovation project of TİKA have made a significant contribution to education and culture in the cultural capital of Lahore.

After the performances of the students, President of Gazali Education Foundation, Mr. Waqar Anjum Jafri, thanked TİKA for the renovation of the 20 years old school building. Mr. Jafri said that because of this project students will be able to get an education in better conditions and that the students appreciate TİKA and Turkey every day when they come to school.

TİKA Islamabad Coordinator Mr. Gökhan Umut, explaining the purpose and the development of the project, stated that in this project aimed at enhancing the technical infrastructure and capacity of the two schools to provide a better educational environment to the students.

TİKA, which has implemented projects in various fields throughout Pakistan, also attaches great importance to education and technical and vocational training, he added.
