Scores of people including celebrities turn out for protest in Karachi as Israel continues to commit war crimes
A large number of people took to the streets in Karachi protesting against the atrocities being carried out by the Israeli regime in Gaza. Thus far, well over 200 have taken place due to indiscriminate aerial bombing by Israel. These include dozens of kids who had no understanding of this war. As per estimates, close to five hundred buildings have been damaged or destroyed with about a quarter of a billion-dollar in losses in Gaza.
People from all walks of life were present during a protest that was arranged by the different civil society organizations in the port city. The participants of the rally were of all ages, social status, and ethnic backgrounds. Some of the families brought toddlers with them as well. The crowd chanted pro-Palestine slogans and called upon Israel to stop the bombing of Gaza immediately to avoid further human casualties.
Gaza is burning
The organizers of the protest rally called for an immediate ceasefire. “Israel needs to stop bombing Gaza, it needs to stop forcing evictions,” an organizer demanded while calling for a complete boycott of Israeli products. “We demand the Pakistani government makes pro-BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) rules. We want to put pressure on our government to help with the boycott.”
Celebrities join protests
Many well-known faces were among the crowd, chanting slogans for the rights of the oppressed Palestinians. Some of the names more prominent names present were Actor and Producer Shereyar Munawar Siddiqui, Actors Mahira Khan, Ayesha Omer, and Ali Rehman Khan, and RJ Annoushey Asharaf among others. Several other A-listers were also a part of the protests that took place in other cities including Lahore and Islamabad. Many stars have also condemned Israeli actions over the various social media platforms.
