Pakistan Foreign Minister calls for collective efforts to end human tragedy in Palestine

Foreign Minister has called for collective efforts to end human tragedy in Palestine and avert threats to regional peace.

Pakistan Embassy in New York hosted a working dinner hosted in the honour of the foreign ministers of Palestine, Turkey and Tunisia who arrived together with the Pakistani foreign minister in New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly’s (UNGA) emergency session on the situation in Palestine on May 20.

President of UNGA Volkan Bozkir and permanent Representatives of OIC member countries also attended the reception.

The discussion focused on the worsening situation in Gaza and ways to formulate a unified and unequivocal response from OIC member states to Israeli aggression ahead of the UNGA meeting.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi highlighted atrocities being committed by Israeli forces, the miseries of Palestinian people and threats to regional peace, and diplomatic efforts made by Pakistan raise the voice for Palestinians.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi also held detailed consultation with the participating foreign minister on adopting a joint strategy to draw the world community’s attention towards grave human rights violations.

Foreign Minister of Palestine Riyad Al-Maliki, Foreign Minister of Turkey Mevlut Cavusoglu and Foreign Minister of Tunisia Othman Jerandi arrived in New York early today with Pakistani foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi for a unified stance on Palestine at UN.

The permanent representative of Pakistan at the UN, Ambassador Munir Akram, and the ambassador of Pakistan in Washington, Dr Asad Majeed Khan, also attended the dinner.

Qureshi noted that Israel’s use of indiscriminate and disproportionate force against innocent Palestinians had enraged the entire Muslim ummah. The foreign minister also condemned Israel’s policy of the expansion of illegal settlements, forced eviction of Palestinians from their homes and demolition of their houses with impunity.

Qureshi expressed his deep gratitude to all brotherly OIC countries, who along with Pakistan, played a proactive role in convening the special meeting of the UNGA.
