BYD electric vehicles now available for nooking in Pakistan, starting at Rs 9 million

BYD, a global leader in New Energy Vehicles (NEV), showcased its electric vehicle lineup in Pakistan through Mega Motor Company (MMC) at the Pakistan Auto Show 2024 in Lahore.

BYD launched bookings for its ATTO 3 and SEAL models, marking a significant step in its entry into Pakistan’s EV market.

MMC, backed by Hub Power Holdings Limited, a subsidiary of The Hub Power Company Limited (HUBC), aims to assemble and distribute BYD vehicles locally. This partnership is expected to promote wider EV adoption in Pakistan.

Research analyst Abrar Polani from AHL stated that HUBC’s entry into the EV market aligns with global trends in sustainable energy, adding that HUBC plans to invest $200 million in a project for local EV manufacturing, set for completion by 2026. Funding will be a mix of debt and equity, reflecting HUBC’s long-term commitment to Pakistan’s EV sector.

MMC and BYD Auto Industry Company Limited have signed a Master Supply & Manufacture Agreement and a Technical License Agreement, which allow MMC to manufacture, market, and distribute BYD EVs in Pakistan. This arrangement strengthens MMC’s position in the Pakistani EV market and highlights BYD’s intent to establish a solid presence in the region.

MMC plans to open three flagship BYD showrooms in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad by the end of the year. In addition, Dr. Aazir Anwar Khan from the University of Lahore emphasized the importance of affordable EV options, suggesting that local assembly could reduce costs. Khan recommended pricing EVs between Rs2.5 million and Rs6 million to make them accessible to a broader audience.

BYD ATTO 3 and SEAL Models: Features and Pricing

The ATTO 3, an electric crossover SUV, features BYD’s proprietary Blade Battery, providing a range of 410 kilometers per charge and is priced at Rs. 8,990,000.
The SEAL model, a high-performance electric sedan, offers a range of 650 kilometers with an acceleration rate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds.

The SEAL is available in two variants: the Dynamic, priced at Rs14,790,000, and the Premium at Rs16,990,000, targeting higher-income buyers.

Automotive expert Usman Ansari noted that while the ATTO 3 could attract Pakistani consumers due to its competitive price, the SEAL’s higher price might face limited demand due to economic constraints.

Founded in 1995, BYD has grown into a high-tech company with a strong international presence. The company ceased producing gasoline-powered vehicles, focusing on electric and plug-in hybrid models to drive global sustainability.
