Eid ul Fitr 2023: Pakistan announces five-day Eid holiday

Pakistanis should prepare for a long Eid ul Fitr vacation as the government has announced a five-day holiday for Eid 2023.

The Cabinet Division notification said that the holidays had been scheduled from April 21 (Friday) to April 25 (Tuesday), for Eid ul Fitr, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramzaan.

Ramadan 2023 started in Pakistan on March 23. The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is set to meet on April 20 for the sighting of the Eid ul Fitr crescent moon.

Eid ul Fitr is expected to be on either April 21 or April 22 in Pakistan, depending on the sighting of the Shawwal moon. However, the Ruet-i-Hilal Research Council has suggested that Eid is “most likely to be celebrated on April 22” in Pakistan this year.

Eid holidays are a time of celebration and joy for Muslims all over the world. It marks the end of the holy month of Ramzaan – the month of fasting. The preparations for Eid begin weeks in advance, with people shopping for new clothes, decorating their homes, and preparing special dishes.

Many people plan to travel home for Eid to be with their loved ones and to celebrate together. Pakis­tan Railways has announced five special trains for people looking to travel to other cities and spend their Eid with their loved ones.

The first Eid train will depart from Karachi to Peshawar Cantonment on April 18, while the second will be traveling the same day from Quetta to Rawalpindi. The third train will leave Karachi en route to Lahore on April 19 and the fourth will leave from Rawalpindi to Quetta on April 26. The fifth and last train has a Kolpur (in Balochistan) to Karachi route and will run on April 27.
