Shahid Afridi is trending on Twitter both in Pakistan and India
Former Pakistan cricket star Shahid Afridi stirred quite a reaction from across the border after making a strong statement about India’s hardline Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In a recent visit to Azad Kashmir, Afridi severely criticized Modi for his action in India. He was highly critical of how the people in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir are being treated by the BJP government.
“I am in your beautiful village, I am very delighted. I was planning to visit you all for a long time. The world is currently infected by such a big disease. But the bigger disease is in Modi’s mind,” the hard-hitting all-rounder said. “Modi deployed 7 lakh soldiers in Kashmir, same as the total strength of Pakistani forces,” Afridi added.
Shahid Afridi is currently trending both in India and Pakistan due to the war of words taking place between the two arch-rival nations.
A number of Indian cricketers reacted to the viral video criticizing Shahid Afridi. Former off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, infamous for MonkeyGate and slapping fellow Indian international S. Sreesanth on live TV, led the barrage on Afridi.
“This is very upsetting what Shahid Afridi has come up with, talking ill about our country and our Prime Minister. This is just not acceptable,” Harbhajan said.
Former Indian all-rounder also Yuvraj Singh expressed his disappointment over the video and tweeted: “Really disappointed by @SAfridiOfficial‘s comments on our Hon’b PM @narendramodi ji. As a responsible Indian who has played for the country, I will never accept such words. I made an appeal on your behest for the sake of humanity. But never again.”
Australian cricket journalist Dennis Freedman, famous for his social media avatar Dennis Does Cricket, expressed his surprise on the reaction by Indian players. Dennis said that while Pakistan opened the Kartarpur Corridor, the Indian players are severing ties with Shahid Afridi for showing them the reality in Kashmir.
Shahid Afridi, meanwhile, has tweeted his support for the people of Kashmir, who’re facing atrocities at the hands of the Indian government.
