In a ceremony held on September 18, 2024, at his official residence in Islamabad, the Japanese Ambassador Wada Mitsuhiro awarded the prestigious “Japanese Ambassador’s Commendations” to Ms. Shirai Mariko, the Lahore Sogetsu Study Group, and the Lahore Bonsai Society.
The commendations recognized their significant contributions to fostering cultural ties between Japan and Pakistan.
Ms. Shirai, the General Manager of Cox & Kings Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd., has been a key liaison for Japanese travelers and has actively supported the Japanese community in Islamabad for many years.
Ambassador Wada expressed gratitude for her dedicated efforts in strengthening the connection between both nations, praising her role in bridging cultures.
The Lahore Sogetsu Study Group, known for its expertise in Japanese-style Ikebana flower arrangements, has participated in various Japanese Embassy events, including celebrations for the Emperor’s Birthday and Self-Defense Forces Day.
Similarly, the Lahore Bonsai Society, which promotes Japanese-style potted tree art, was recognized for its contribution to enhancing cultural understanding through Bonsai displays.
The event saw Ms. Shirai, Ms. Neveen Syed, President of the Lahore Sogetsu Study Group, and Mian Umair, President of the Lahore Bonsai Society, receive certificates of commendation and memorial trophies, solidifying their roles as cultural ambassadors.
