Pakistan all set to host OIC foreign ministers summit on March 22

Pakistan is all set to host the forthcoming summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Islamabad on 22-23 March 2022. The 48th summit of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of OIC will take place on the same day as the 75th-anniversary celebrations of Pakistan’s Independence.

The thematic focus of the session will be on ‘Partnering for Unity, Justice, and Development’, said the statement issued by the foreign office.

The foreign delegates and high-level personages coming to Pakistan to attend the OIC session will also be witnessing the Pakistan Day Parade on 23 March 2022 as Guests of Honour.

Prime Minister Imran Khan will deliver the keynote address at the Inaugural Session on 22 March 2022, while Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi will chair the CFM.

Participants of the 48th CFM:

As per the press release, the following will be attending the 48th summit of Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of OIC:

  • State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi of the People’s Republic of China will attend as a Special Guest.
  • Senior officials from non-OIC countries
  • Senior representatives from the United Nations system
  • Various regional and international organizations, including Arab League and the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Discussion Topics of the Summit:

The following matters are expected to be discussed in the upcoming session of CFM, according to the statement issued by the foreign ministry:

  • an appraisal of the global and regional landscapes
  • Reaffirmation of the long- standing solidarity and support of OIC’s membership with the people of Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir
  • Reiteration of resolve to combat rising Islamophobia
  • Review and assessment of the grave human rights and humanitarian situation in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK)
  • the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan
  • Strategies to counter the effects of climate change
  • Vaccine inequity and erosion
