Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Mongolia’s Prime Minister Luvsannamsrain Oyun-Erdene on the sidelines of the SCO Council of Heads of Government meeting in Islamabad, marking a pivotal moment in the two nations’ relationship.
The Prime Minister warmly welcomed Oyun-Erdene, noting that this visit signifies a new chapter defined by mutual respect and goodwill. During their discussions, Prime Minister Sharif congratulated Oyun-Erdene on his re-election and expressed eagerness to collaborate closely in the coming days to enhance cooperation.
He emphasized the importance of exploring new avenues for mutual benefit, particularly in trade, investment, and people-to-people contacts. To this end, Sharif proposed that Mongolia consider sending civil servants to training institutions in Pakistan to foster capacity building.
In a significant gesture, the Prime Minister proposed designating 2025 as the “Year of Pakistan-Mongolia Friendship,” aimed at solidifying the bonds between the two countries.
Oyun-Erdene reciprocated, commending Pakistan for its leadership role as the Chair of the SCO Council of Heads of Government and affirming Mongolia’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations through joint efforts.
Both leaders agreed to establish a Joint Ministerial Commission to enhance cooperation in key sectors, including trade, tourism, agriculture, and mining. They also discussed the formation of an inter-parliamentary union to bolster parliamentary ties.
The meeting concluded with Oyun-Erdene planting a sapling at the Pakistani Prime Minister’s official residence, symbolizing the growing friendship and collaborative spirit between Pakistan and Mongolia. As both nations look toward a future of increased cooperation, the groundwork has been laid for a fruitful partnership that promises mutual benefits and deeper ties.
