Pakistan Govt partners with Huawei to launch IT training portal to empower youth with digital skills

Pakistan’s Ministry of Information Technology and Telecom (MoITT) has partnered with Huawei Technologies to launch the ‘ICT Training Portal’ to pave the way for a skilled workforce and bridge the gap between academia and industry.

This innovative initiative is set to provide fresh graduates with hands-on experience and equip them with cutting-edge knowledge in various IT fields, paving the way for a more digitally skilled workforce.

The ICT Training Portal will offer specialized training modules covering some of the most advanced trends in information and communications technology (ICT), including artificial intelligence, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and data analytics. The portal is designed to ensure that graduates gain not just theoretical knowledge but also practical skills that are in high demand in today’s fast-paced IT industry.

Over the next three years, the Pakistan ICT Training Portal Program will connect recent graduates with leading IT companies for internships, allowing them to apply their learning in real-world settings.

This initiative aims to create a pipeline of skilled professionals capable of meeting the challenges posed by a rapidly evolving digital landscape.

Federal Minister for IT and Telecom, Shaza Fatima, emphasized the significance of this program, highlighting its role in enhancing digital literacy and equipping the youth with the skills necessary to tackle modern digital challenges. “This portal will act as a unified platform, linking graduates with IT companies to provide internship opportunities and experience with state-of-the-art technologies,” Shaza said at the launch.

She added that the collaboration not only aligns with Pakistan’s vision to improve ICT education but also aims to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and industry requirements, ensuring that graduates are fully prepared for the ever-changing demands of the digital economy.

Ahmed Bilal Masud, Deputy CEO of Huawei Technologies Pakistan, also spoke at the event, stressing the importance of investing in youth to build a workforce capable of driving the country’s economic and technological growth. “By investing in the future of our youth, we are paving the way for a skilled workforce that will drive Pakistan’s economic growth and technological advancement,” he said.

He also noted that Huawei’s mix of local resources and global expertise would play a key role in advancing Pakistan’s ICT sector through this collaboration.

In addition to the ICT Training Portal, Huawei has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with COMSATS University Islamabad to further enhance technical and vocational training for students and young technicians. Under this agreement, Huawei will equip the university with advanced ICT technologies, offering resources and training aimed at delivering high-quality technical education.

The initiative will begin at COMSATS Lahore campus with plans to expand to Karachi in the near future.

The partnership between Huawei and the government underscores the companies’ shared commitment to improving Pakistan’s ICT infrastructure and ensuring that the nation’s youth are equipped with the skills required for success in the global digital economy.

Huawei, which operates its second-largest research and development base in Pakistan after China, will leverage its global expertise to provide comprehensive training to educators and students, thus bolstering skill development and innovation.
