RUDA and Huawei partners for Smart Forest
Huawei Pakistan and Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) signed a memorandum of understanding to launch the Rs 3 billion project to build a smart forest. The collaboration “will help protect Pakistan’s most precious natural resources and ecosystems.”
The MoU signing ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Imran Khan, Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar, CEO RUDA Imran Amin, Huawei Pakistan CEO Mark Meng, Huawei Pakistan Deputy CEO Ahmed Bilal Masud, Huawei UAE Senior VP Safder Nazir, Huawei Pakistan Lahore MD. Li Wen and other officials.
The project has been launched near the Ravi city project which is expected to generate $40 billion for the country and create one million jobs.
The sensor technology and surveillance systems to be installed in the forest will help monitor the growth of trees, condition of soil and water and safeguard the forest from illegal logging activities by alerting the security team by detecting chainsaw or machine activity inside the protected area.
At least 10 million trees will be planted at the land area spread over 24,000 kanals (3170 acres). “30,000 trees have already been planted and the infrastructure work is continuing at a fast pace to complete the project within one year,” said Imran Amin, CEO of RUDA.
Pakistan decided to partner with Huawei that helped protect biodiversity and manage natural resources in 22 protected areas in 18 countries using its digital technologies.
