While Addressing senior management of Sialkot International Airport Ltd, Mr Abbasi said unlike other unsuccessful Greenfield airports in the world, the Sialkot International Airport was continuously being expanded with favourable outcomes.

Brownfield airports are the ones that are already operational and have some existing infrastructure which is further renovated or modified as per the need. Whereas, already discussed greenfield airports are built on unused lands.

The opening of the international terminal at the airport would not only be important from the city’s perspective but would also prove a great step for the entire country. Approximately 1,000,000 travellers from Sialkot and adjacent areas are expected to benefit from this international airport each year.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said the opening of the international terminal would prove to be a significant milestone not only for the city but for the entire country.

It has the distinctions of being the first privately owned public airport in Pakistan and South Asia, pending the completion of the new greenfield Islamabad International Airport, of having the longest runway in Pakistan.

Mr Abbasi assured the exporters of his full cooperation for the resolution of their problems and said that an international airport of this kind might also be established in Faisalabad by the local business community soon.

The Prime Minister lauded the funding and patience of the business community of Sialkot that made this project a reality and expressed satisfaction over the completion of several development projects in Sialkot and adjoining areas.

Minister for Planning and Interior Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Safron Lieutenant General (r) Qadir Baloch and members of provincial assemblies also attended the event.
