Spotify launches in Pakistan

Spotify, the world’s leading music streaming service, launched in Pakistan

Much to the delight of music lovers and fans, the leading audio streaming platform Spotify has finally launched its services in Pakistan.

The Swedish music streaming service announced the move through its official Twitter account. “We launch in 80+ new markets over the next few days. See you soon Bangladesh, Pakistan and Nigeria,” the tweet said. 

The app will be available free both on iOS and android though add free versions will carry a monthly cost. The cheapest package will cost 149 rupees per month and will only be available to university students.  There are a number of options for individuals and family packages with the most expensive costing 479 rupees a month, merely US$3. 

Despite a number of other services such as YouTube Music, and Deezer, etc. Spotify in a blog post further added that the platform is helping new artists reach out to audiences worldwide. The company is constantly refining its algorithms to help everyone discover new artists. 

“Listeners enjoy Spotify because we introduce them to music to fall in love with—including music they might not have found otherwise. In fact, Spotify drives 16 billion artist discoveries every month, meaning 16 billion times a month, fans listen to an artist they have never heard before on Spotify. We’re proud of that and are actively refining our algorithms to enable even more fan discoveries of new artists each month,” the blog post read.

The company, which launched its service over a decade ago, is currently available in 93 countries and has 345 million monthly active users. At the moment, Spotify has 144 million subscribers with over 60 million tracks, and 4 billion playlists to choose from which can be downloaded at their favorite music and podcasts on their mobile devices, tablets, and laptop.

The arrival of the streaming service in Pakistan was welcome by Patari’s CEO Zarlasht Faisal, who called the development exciting. Patari is the only Pakistan-based music streaming service. He hoped that Pakistan can achieve its music streaming potential and other players in the international market will also follow suit.
