Ukraine celebrates Independence Day at Safa Mall Islamabad with Pakistanis
Ukraine marked its independence day in Islamabad at an open house style friendly reception at the Safa Gold Mall attended by local and foreign guests.
The reception was held by the Ambassador of Ukraine V.I. Lakomov to commemorate its Declaration of Independence when Ukraine won independence from the former Soviet Union on Aug. 24, 1991.
The celebration marking the 26th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence was unique as Embassy of Ukraine celebrated the day with city’s business community at the shopping center Safa Mall which was greatly appreciated by Pakistanis.
Ambassador Vlad Lakomov, addressing the participants after cutting the cake, said that Ukraine is keen to enhance bilateral relations with Pakistan in all fields. In his speech, Ambassador Lakomov underlined the good relations between Ukraine and Pakistan, and the potential for expanded cooperation in trade, education, culture, tourism and other fields.
Ambassador Lakomov said the embassy would hold a more formal reception later in autumn. He also thanked the administration of Safa Gold Mall for making arrangements for the celebration.
The citizens of Islamabad were surprised to see the city’s top shopping mall adorned with blue and yellow balloons and flags of Ukraine and Pakistan. Ordinary shoppers cherished the festivity and also enjoyed a bite of the delicious ‘birthday cake’.
Safa Gold Mall’s general manager, Moshin Masood, appreciated that Ukraine had chosen the shopping centre’s premises to hold a reception on the country’s Independence Day. “It creates goodwill and promotes people-to-people contact,” he said.
Ambassador Vlad Lakomov, Press Incharg Miss Yulia, Safa Mall GM Mohsin Masood and his Manager Marketing Mr Junaid, and staff members of Embassy and Safa Mall welcomed the guests.
