Australian High Commissioner in Pakistan meets Australia’s new Honorary Consul in Karachi
Australian High Commissioner Dr Geoffrey Shaw hosts Jahanzeb Awan, Australia’s new Honorary Consul in Karachi.
“We look forward to Jahanzeb’s support in strengthening our historic connection with the region, including our consular, trade and development work” the high commissioner said on Twitter.
The Australian Government announced the appointment of Jahanzeb Awan as its new Honorary Consul in Karachi, with consular jurisdiction over province Sindh. He will help promote Australian trade, economic, commercial, cultural, educational, scientific and technological interests in Sindh.
Mr Awan will provide consular assistance to Australians in Sindh on behalf of the Australian High Commission in Islamabad. Mr Awan will liaise with federal, provincial and local Government authorities in Karachi, in particular with those relevant to Australia’s consular interests.
Australia opened its first High Commission in Karachi in 1948.

Barrister Jahanzeb Awan is an Advocate Supreme Court of Pakistan. He is a partner and head of litigation at a law firm in Pakistan and specializes in civil, commercial, constitutional and tax matters and appears before the Supreme Court of Pakistan and the High Courts of Sindh, Lahore, Islamabad and Peshawar. Mr Awan is a Pakistani citizen and has family ties in Australia.
