Four killed, scores injured in Srinagar Highway accident

The accident took place in the early hours of the morning, and slippery roads may have contributed to it

Four people were killed, and 11 others were injured early on Sunday due to a traffic accident at the Srinagar Highway in Islamabad between a coaster and a car that suddenly emerged from Sector G-12. The coaster, carrying Islamabad International Airport (IIA) staff, then hit a vegetable-laden vehicle. The accident is attributed to many factors, including an empty road, the absence of a traffic warden and possibly slippery conditions.

“The incident took place due to bad weather, slippery road and out of order traffic signal. As many as four people died in the accident. The deceased were identified as Naseem Khan, Gul Khan and Alam Khan, while the name of the fourth one could not be known,” an official said. Four of the patients are in critical condition in PIMS, according to the official.

Challenging weather conditions to drive in

Winter conditions in Islamabad can be tricky as there is some fog present in the atmosphere. It can increase substantially on some days of December, leading to accidents such as these. Maintaining a reasonable speed and keeping the hazard on can help reduce these accidents. At the same time, maintaining a distance between vehicles is also crucial. A few of these steps can help avoid potentially life-threatening accidents at this time of the year.
