Pakistan jumps six places on WEF’s Tourism Development Index

Pakistan is one of the few countries with a dynamic and diverse landscape

Pakistan has made a significant jump on the World Economic Forum (WEF) Travel and Tourism Development Index 2021.

Pakistan – the land of beauty and hospitality – jumped up six places on the index ranking now at 83 from 89 out of 117 countries.

Pakistan’s Travel & Tourism Development Index (TTDI) score also improved to 3.6. The countries are scored on a 7-point scale where 1 is considered worst and 7 best in the index.

Pakistan is one of the few countries with a dynamic and diverse landscape including lofty mountains, pristine lakes, lush green valleys, snowy peaks, sandy deserts as well as culture and heritage sites.

Aftabur Rehman Rana, Managing Director of the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC), said the country’s improved standing constituted a “significant progress”.

The federal and provincial governments had made enormous efforts for upgrading the tourism infrastructure, the business environment, safety and security as well as health and hygiene, he said.

The Travel and Tourism Development Index assessed 117 economies, identifying key factors in enabling the sustainable and resilient growth of travel and tourism economies.

Japan, the United States, Spain, France and Germany are at the top of the list.
