Pakistan’s MMA fighters Bashir Ahmed and Shahid Siddique win Gold at the Bangkok Jiu-Jitsu Championships

Pakistan’s best Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighters Bashir Ahmad and Shahid Siddiqui have made the nation proud by winning gold at an international martial arts event held in Bangkok.

Faizan Khan and Pakistani Brazilian Jiu Jitsu fighter Syed Muhammad Ali Haider also won silver medals.

Pakistani MMA godfather Bashir Ahmed won the gold medal in85-kilogram weight class of the expert division at the BangkokJiu Jitsu Championships. Bashir has won a gold medal for the third time in a row in 3 seasons while representing Pakistan.

Another Pakistani MMA champion Shahid Siddique also won the gold medal in 69-kilogram in Nogi Division and bagged bronze in Gi-Division at Thailand Mall Championship.

Both champions dedicated their victories to APS Peshawar martyrs.

The Pakistani team overall bagged three gold, three silver and one bronze medal during the tournament.

Bashir ‘Somchai’ Ahmad is an MMA practitioner with proficiency in Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Boxing, which he studied in Thailand and United States.

Sharing the big news with his fans through his Facebook page, Ahmed said that he loves Pakistan and “wants to put the country in the right direction and honor the sacrifices of the real heroes of Pakistan such as the martyred soldiers (APS victims) who died 3 years ago” defending the people.

Bashir Ahmad has won gold for Pakistan for the third time in 3 consecutive seasons. Bashir Ahmad was born in 1982 in the city of Faisalabad Punjab, Pakistan, but moved to Virginia, United States, with his parents as a child. In 2002, he pursued a career in the U.S. military, joining the Virginia National Guard. In 2004, he was deployed to Iraq when the war broke out. Later, he came to Lahore, Pakistan in 2007 with the aim of promoting MMA in his home country and teach Pakistani youth.

In 2012, Ahmad opened a proper gym named “Synergy MMA Academy” in Lahore which has grown to become one of the biggest gyms in the country.

The other prominent Pakistani fighter at the BangkokJiu Jitsu Championships was Syed Muhammad Ali Haider. Pakistani Brazilian Jiu Jitsu fighter Ali Haider won two Silver medals in 85 KG category at The Mall Jiu Jitsu Championships Thailand.

Sharing the news on Facebook, he said: “I dedicate this win to the Martyrs of Peshawar APS attack. Nothing can replace the loss of our beautiful young children but in their memory, I want to tell the world that Pakistan is a nation of fighters and martyrs who have given their lives for peace and harmony. We want to progress in sports and education and compete with the world on the largest platforms.”
